Roof Solar Power Panels

For homeowners who are considering installing a solar power system, there are a few important things to consider beforehand.  The sheer variety of roof solar panels on the market today can be overwhelming. Roof solar panels can provide all kinds of different benefits, and it’s worthwhile to get familiar with some of the different types available.

One feature that all roof solar panels have in common is that, as a result of their design, the solar cells within the panels receive as much sunlight exposure for as much of the day as possible.  DC electricity is produced by these solar cells when they’re hit by sunlight.  By wiring together the needed number of solar cells, it’s possible to produce any amount of voltage.  The DC electricity is then sent to an inverter, which is normally located in the vicinity of the home’s electrical panel, where it is then converted to the AC electricity used by appliances in the home.  Power that isn’t needed can then be sent back to the grid.  This reverses the user’s power meter correspondingly, and the power company credits the power provided.  There are two options for those times at which the roof solar panels aren’t producing power (such as in overcast conditions).  Batteries represent one solution; they can be charged by the power system, and then provide power to the home when the system goes inactive. If you want to know more about batteries, go to Solar Power Battery.

The inverter can also simply switch the house back over to the power grid once power stops coming from the solar panels.  Many homeowners are going with the option of using a battery bank, as this can sometimes completely eliminate the need to buy power from the the utility company. Choosing the right roof solar panels can make a big difference toward the overall performance of your solar power system.  There is a definite difference in performance.  With the same amount of sunlight exposure, two different roof solar panels can produce vastly different amounts of power.  By choosing more efficient solar panels, you can decrease the number of panels needed to meet your needs.

Durability is also important.  The durability of the enclosure may be a concern.  The enclosures are important because they protect the solar cells.  If the enclosure isn’t well made, it won’t be able to protect the cells from all of the dangers it will likely be exposed to.  Any kind of damage will lessen the cell’s capacity to generate power.  Also, some solar cells are more reliable than others.

There are a number of ways to make solar cells, each coming with its own characteristic benefits.  The two main types of solar cells are monocrystalline cells and polycrystalline cells.  The superior of the two in terms of quality is the monocrystalline solar cell.  They output more current than polycrystalline cells, and tend to last longer.  Monocrystalline cells justify the increased cost for these reasons.  For further info about solar cells, please visit Solar Cell Efficiency.
