Heart Ribbon

How To Make Your Own Valentine’s Day Heart
Whether you’re making a gift for the one you love, want to make a nice decoration for the house or just want a craft to make with the kid’s on Valentine’s day, a homemade heart is perfect to make as it’s a popular design that is quite easy to make. Here’s how to make a Valentine’s day heart that is lovely to look at and nice and smelly…
Fabric Heart
What You’ll Need:
-Fabric
-Heart template
-Stuffing (Lavender, cotton wool etc)
-Sewing needle and thread
-Scissors
-Ribbon
-Decorations (fabric shapes, sequins, ribbons, fabric trims and buttons).
Find a heart template or draw one freehand. Then draw round template twice on fabric, leaving a 6mm-1cm allowance for seams and cut out. Then pin right side down together and sew, leaving the necessary seam allowance. Also leave a gap, where you can turn through and then can stuff the heart with cotton wool, lavender or some other studding filler.
Before you stuff the heart, snip off some of the seam allowances so that it looks neat but won’t come unravelled. Then turn the right way round, stuff the heart and sew up the gap you have left. You can then add a handle, by folding a long piece of ribbon in half and then sewing onto the top of the heart, forming a loop.
You can decorate your hearts as you wish, with fabric shapes, sequins, ribbons, fabric trims and buttons to make them look a little more interesting.
Decorative fabric hearts for Valentine’s day will look lovely hung up in your home and if you use lavender, this design will make great smelly pillows or make your clothes draw smell nice. Choose a pretty looking fabric for your fabric hearts, such as flowery, stripy, or chequered fabric, or even traditional reds, pinks and purples.
Note: If you intend to do this activity with children, make sure you keep an eye on them and avoid using sharp scissors.
