do you have to use upholstery fabric to sew a slip cover?

i am wanting to change the color of my sectional by making a simple fitted slipcover. do i have to use upholstery fabric? or can i use a lightweight fabric that u can get at places like walmart?

Upholstery fabric is what the couch is covered in when built. You can use any fabric you choose to make a slip cover, upholstery fabric would be too heavy to wash. If you use a real lightweight fabric, just make sure you devise a way to keep it in place as it will tend to move.
